WORDSMITH ADVISES
GREATER CARE AS BUSINESS PRESSURES MOUNT
LEEDS, UK, February 12; Internet wordsmith Adam Christie has said
organizations trading on the internet should become increasingly careful
about the content of their websites as business pressures mount.
"The standard of language used on some sites is appalling," Mr
Christie said, "so it is not surprising that customers and potential
customers may rapidly leave sites that do not provide the information they
want quickly and in ways they can easily understand.
"So much attention may have been paid to design that the words may have
easily been overlooked," he added, "or they have been written by
someone who does not sufficiently appreciate the skills and nuances of
writing for the web."
The collapse of dotcom companies in Europe and North American shows just how
intense the business pressure has become, Mr Christie added, so there is even
less scope in 2001 for sites to have any weaknesses.
"Although some may consider making economies wherever they can in their
business operations, cutting back on the attention paid to websites could be
a false saving," Adam Christie said.
"Every word counts as commercial pressures grow," he said, "so
paying greater attention to detail and making sure budgets are allocated to
the writing on a site is essential. Now is not the time to risk losing any
potential customers."
