DOTCOMS MAY BE WRITING THEIR OWN EPITAPHS

LEEDS, UK, December 12, 2000; DOTCOM enterprises and other organizations using websites commercially may only have themselves to blame if their businesses collapse, says the founder of a new support service for internet users.

Adam Christie, founder of Modus Operandi consulting - www.modus-op.com - said that so many sites are so badly structured, so poorly written and make finding information so difficult or tedious, that potential customers are lost.

"I hate to think how many companies could have had business from us but lost it because their sites were so appalling," he said.

"No business executive in today's time-pressured world can sit around making random shots at moving graphics with a mouse trying to get past the first page," Adam Christie said, "however beautiful, artistic and well-crafted it may be.

"Others are so badly written once you get past the pretty pictures that it's almost impossible to discover exactly what services an organization provides or what products it sells."

Modus-op.com has been set up to help people avoid exactly those problems.

Modus-op.com offers writing and architecture support for those with existing sites or those planning them.

Using highly experienced and knowledgeable writers, Modus-op.com can ensure that each section of a well-structured site is understandable and readable.

Founder Adam Christie said: "As regular web users, we were dismayed to discover and repeatedly frustrated by how badly many sites were laid out. And, the writing was appalling; we had a rough idea of what people wanted to say, but that was all.

"B2B sites are frequently horrendous. Huge illustrations of special offers can stop potential customers getting the information they want and need.

"Others are so over-designed that just getting past the all-singing all-dancing introductory graphic is an unnecessarily time-consuming target-shooting game that may be self-defeating.

"We set out to help web designers and users present sites that are clear, simple and user-friendly.

"We are experienced writers and text-editors who appreciate B2B and B2C sensitivities," he concluded.
